Diet and Prevention for Life
High 5 For Life
Another famous answer: fruits and vegetables. You've heard it
again and again. Ok, to make a long story short, it reduces colon,
mouth, lung, and esophageal cancer. Eat about 5 servings daily
(for example, 2 fruits + 3 vegetables). But do store bought foods
that were sprayed with pesticides cause cancer? There is no
evidence. Probably the benefit of eating these fruits and
vegetables far outweigh the small risk that these may present. To
be sure, wash them thoroughly before eating them.

Free Prevention for Life
Do you know that there is something that is universally available, usually free or low
cost, absolutely necessary for life, and that you can digest to reduce your chances
of cancer? It's something that's right in front of your nose. Water!
Water has been shown to reduce bladder, colon and breast cancer. But how?
Water washes away toxins that accumulate in your bladder, thus reducing the
chance for the toxins to cause cancer. Similarly, in the colon water speeds the
transit of waste products in the colon, and dilutes these toxins more, meaning less
chances of colon cancer. Finally, the working hypothesis is that water may help cells
work more efficiently to rid toxins in breast tissues.
Vitamins and Minerals for Life
Several antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals found in foods have
been found to be beneficial for prevention of cancer and heart disease.
Strangely enough, their extracts in pill or powder form have not shown definitive
efficacy to prevent those diseases. Some promising results have been shown for
Vitamin D, calcium for colon cancer, as well as Vitamin E and selenium for
prostate cancer, but further studies must be completed. It makes sense that
whatever we miss in our foods can be supplemented with a multivitamin from time
to time, but never in "mega" doses. Look for 90% of your vitamins to come from
foods and you'll never go wrong.
